Your skin is made up of three layers: the subcutis, the dermis, and the epidermis. The epidermis is the outermost layer - the skin that you see - which consists mainly of cells called keratinocytes that form several layers that constantly grow outwards as the exterior cells die and flake off. Exfoliating your skin is what helps aid the sloughing off of those dead skin cells, and is one of the most important steps in your skin care routine. Exfoliating your skin has many beauty benefits. It reveals newer, healthier-looking skin; it increases blood circulation, which in turn helps you to achieve healthy and glowing skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, exfoliation can leave your skin looking brighter and improve the effectiveness of topical skin care products by enhancing absorption. Regular exfoliation can also help prevent clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts.

One of the best and most inexpensive ways of exfoliating your skin is with a facial scrub, especially one that contains coffee. Choose a coffee scrub that contains finely-ground coffee rather than one that is coarser. Coffee scrubs that have a finer texture are gentler on your skin.

The reason why a coffee scrub is superior is because it has many more beauty benefits for your skin, in part because the caffeine content increases blood flow and gives your skin a more even tone. Another benefit of coffee scrub is that it is a natural exfoliator and doesn't contain harsh chemicals as with other commercial scrubs, especially when the coffee scrub is made with organic and ethically-sourced coffee.
